Natural circulation fails under these conditions, but the robust axial flow pumps of an FCE maintain consistent heat transfer rates, allowing the spent wash to be concentrated to highly viscous syrup (up to 50-60% total solids).

Furthermore, FCE systems are highly adaptable and are frequently integrated with Mechanical Vapor Recompression (MVR) or Thermal Vapor Recompression (TVR) technologies.
